NEW YORK, Sept 23, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — The 90-Minute Rock Doc Includes New Interviews With Original NWA Members - Ice Cube and DJ Yella
N.W.A’s Influence Explored on New Capitol/Priority Release, ‘N.W.A And Their Family Tree,’ to be Released September 30
The Year was 1988, the album was “Straight Outta Compton,” the group was NWA and the outcome was history making. VH1’s Emmy Award-winning franchise takes a look back at the album and the group that changed the face of hip hop 20 years after its release in the new VH1 Rock Doc, NWA: The World’s Most Dangerous Group.” The doc will premiere on VH1, October 3 at 11pm*.
When NWA released their “Straight Outta Compton” album in late 1988 it changed the face of hip hop forever by ushering in a new genre of music called “gangsta rap.” Television and radio were afraid to touch it because the lyrics were so perverse and forbidden, the politicians were quick to attack and condemn it and the FBI wanted it banned - it made history even before it became a multi-platinum selling album.
VH1’s Rock Doc “NWA: The World’s Most Dangerous Group” tells the story of a group of childhood friends from Compton who channeled the rage of the streets through the prism of rap music and pop culture. Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella gave a powerful voice to the late-80’s Compton ghetto that was on the verge of exploding, and in the process scared much of White America. Often misunderstood, NWA’s raging raps about police violence, gang-land terror and drug-fueled shooting sprees gave the ultimate voice to the voiceless.
The doc features new interviews with Ice Cube, DJ Yella, Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Woods-Wright, former manager Jerry Heller, Ice-T, journalist Cheo Coker, and director John Singleton. Supplemented by rarely-seen footage and interviews from the group’s early days, photos, and music, the documentary will show how gangsta rap was born in late 80s Los Angeles, a city torn by drugs and violence…and how a nation grew to fear the music that emerged.
“NWA: The World’s Most Dangerous Group” was written and directed by Mark Ford. Executive produced by Mark Ford and Kevin Lopez and produced by Wesley Jones for Creature Films. Brad Abramson, Shelly Tatro and Jeff Olde are executive producers for VH1. Mark Anstendig is supervising producer for VH1.
To commemorate the historic and ongoing musical and cultural influence of N.W.A, Capitol/Priority will release N.W.A And Their Family Tree on September 30. The new CD and digital collection features a cross-section of 18 genre-defining tracks by the pioneering gangsta rap group and its founders, plus Mack 10, Westside Connection, Snoop Dogg, and other N.W.A-inspired artists.
“NWA: The World’s Most Dangerous Group” is the newest film in the Emmy Award winning VH1 Rock Doc franchise. VH1 Rock Docs are television’s premier collection of music documentaries. Fresh Out The Pen “The Official Overseas Review”

Yo, what up to all the Parliament heads from the ATL site. It has taken me a while to get on here but here is my review of the Fresh Out The Pen album:
Intro - Sick opening, and a killa beat. Every ATL album has a great intro. This is what I have been waitin for for 5 years….’did ya miss me?’ hell yeah!
So Real - 187 in chilled voice mode, dope beat, loving the chicks in the background humming
Preach - This song is so good. Tony Touch did a great job with the track. Hutch still in chilled voice mode. Laid back chillin…
Turmoil in the Ghetto - Every ATL album has an opera track. Big massive sounds from every direction like ‘Promise Me’ or ‘Evil that Men Do’. This track is straight opera! Love it
Get Your Weight Up - No chilled Hutch on the one, just straight voodoo 187. Fire man. Agro, grimmy, ghetto, gangsta….sick with it. An anthem for pumping iron in the gym
Bizniz Never Personal - This reminds me of Eazy and Ren ….’this is a stick up, everybody get face down….’. The chorus took a while to grow on me though
Convict Love - deep
Fresh Out - for me the best track on the album. Incredible. Everybody who loves hip-hop should have the pleasure of owning this track. Vintage ATL
Gangstas in Stilletos - not really feeling this to be honest
Bitch - funny song man
Deep Throat - sampling your own record is pretty cool
Hollywood - again, not really into this
Hustlers Cry - reminds me of a PE track, which is no bad thing
Aklikaniga - this track is amazing, the beat is sick, sick and 187 in agro mode again. Love it
May the Force be wth you - All I can say about this is that when I first heard it on myspace before the album came out I was in total shock. How could the Imperial March from Star Wars (one of the great music scores of all time) be used in a hip-hop track? Still gives me shivers everytime I play it, 3 months later…Incredible. 20 years after Untouchabe and 187 still makes music that blows me away
187 reloaded - good track, hard to follow the previous one though
America X - I listened to this on a beach in Queensland, Australia last week in perfect sunshine and it felt just right. Every ATL album has a good ender and this is no exception. ‘Everybody hates America’…sad but true.
This is the first album to get me excited about hip-hop in a few years. I hope there is a full ATL album to follow!
ATL True.

J.J. Fad is in the HOUSE!!

Group formed in: 1988 (disbanded in 1992) / Members: M.C.J.B. (Juana Burns) Baby-D (Dania Birks) Sassy C (Michelle Franklin). A reminder of how fleeting hip-hop glory can be, female L.A. rappers M.C.J.B. , Baby-D and Sassy C formed ‘Just Jammin’ Fresh and Def’ (J.J. Fad) in 1988. They were a part of the Ruthless Posse headed by Eazy E and produced by Dr. Dre. The first hip-hop girl trio to go platinum. The trio featured a youthful, heavily pop-oriented brand of rap that was non-threatening. “Supersonic”, produced by The Arabian Prince & Dr. Dre, was 1 on the pop charts and a top 10 R&B hit, and the album went platinum, peaking at 1. Soon after it dropped off the charts, they were a memory. Now they’re back and ready to rock the mic again, celebrating they’re 20th anniversary of “Supersonic.” They just received an ASCAP music award for co-writing on Fergies hit song “Fergalicious” and are planning to do a 2oth anniversary re-mix of “Supersonic.” Stay tuned the Fad is Back!!

MULTI-PLATINUM SELLING BAND TO DECLARE WAR ON OCTOBER 14
Posted in Eazy-E, Uncategorized with tags Eazy-E, Compton, NWA, WAR, Phyllis Pollack, music legends, low rider, why cant we be friends, cisco kid on August 26, 2008 by ruthlessfamilyWAR STRUTS OUT THEIR FIRST RELEASES IN 14 YEARS WITH DVD & CD PACKAGES
WAR: What is it good for? The most memorable hits of all time, including “Cisco Kid,” “Low Rider” and “The World is a Ghetto.” On October 14, 2008, War will release three special commemorative packages, containing their greatest hits live in concert. Distributed by Rhino Records/Warner Music Group, this Avenue Records multi-disc onslaught will include a live DVD, a Blu-Ray DVD and a double CD. These three packages mark the band’s first live releases.
Recorded at a sold-out performance at The Grove in Anaheim, California, in late December, 2007, the sets also contains a fold-out poster of the band. The legendary band War has slated their first releases in 14 years, all three titled Greatest Hits Live, definitive sets that will ensure the band’s continuing status as part of the collective consciousness of American popular culture. War always told the truth, sang it straight and left an indelible impression on music fans.
The tracks that grace these packages have been sampled by artists including 2Pac, Ice Cube, Ice-T, Method Man, Redman, The Geto Boys, The Beastie Boys and, countless other rap artists, and R&B artists like Janet Jackson and Barry White. War tracks have been covered by funk royalty like George Clinton, and rockers ZZ Top. War’s impact on musicians of virtually all genres has been immense.
With the band’s long-hailed, musical virtuosity, and influences that include jazz, rock, funk, soul, R&B and Latin, War has impacted its fans, as well as other musicians, regardless of race, generation or genre. This is the one “War” that has truly brought people together.
Long before the late Eazy-E and NWA released their multi-platinum selling Straight Outta Compton, and artists like DJ Quik and The Game proudly proclaimed it as their home turf, War’s lead singer and founding band member Lonnie Jordan was already putting Compton on the musical map, making it his home base, as he recorded an international string of chart-topping songs, hit after hit.
Next year will mark the critically acclaimed band’s fortieth year. Jordan acknowledges that the demand for a live album from War has fervently existed for many years. Jordan remarks, “The performance in this package shows that War is still going strong. We’ve never broken up,” he says. “We now have several generations of fans, and we’re very proud of that.”
War’s Greatest Hits Live packages are fully loaded with ammo, consisting of classic tracks and radio staples, just a few of which include “Spill the Wine,” “Slippin’ Into Darkness,” “All Day Music,” “Gypsy Man,” “Me and Baby Brother,” “Galaxy” and “Outlaw.” The four-disc set will also include an exclusive poster. A medley on the DVDs includes covers of “I Want To Take You Higher” and Sam And Dave’s “Shotgun.”
“The World Is A Ghetto,” which is also featured on these sets, was honored as the Pop Album of the Year in 1972 by Billboard
Magazine.
During the past four decades, War has released 19 albums and has achieved ten top 10 Billboard Pop and R&B singles. War’s music is familiar to baby boomers, as well as to younger generations.
The band’s songs have been used in national advertising campaigns by companies as diverse as Burger King, Nokia, Chevy and Miller Lite, Kodak and more.
Their songs are heard in major motion pictures, including Lethal Weapon, Boogie Nights, Fridays and Gone In 60 Seconds, as well as on hit television shows that have included Beverly Hills 90210, My Name is Earl and The Simpsons. Their songs are also featured on popular video games, such as Grand Theft Auto IV and Skate 2.
International history was made when “Why Can’t We Be Friends” was played in space, as NASA beamed the track to Soviet cosmonauts and U.S. astronauts in 1975. This historical song will also be featured on this live set that is mastered by Stanley Johnson and produced by War’s original and current producers Jerry Goldstein and Lonnie Jordan.
Today, millions of cell phone users worldwide listen to War’s ring tones. Still an international success, earlier this year, War played a highly-publicized reunion concert with acclaimed vocalist Eric Burdon (“Spill the Wine”) at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and just this past June, WAR was seen performing on national television during the NCLR ALMA Awards, at which they were introduced by comedian George Lopez, who called their song “Low Rider” the “Chicano National Anthem.”
Nomar Garciaparra of the L.A. Dodgers and San Diego Padres player Khalil Greene both use the song as entrance music when they come up to bat. Now you can see and hear all live, along with their other greatest hits, on these three special packages.
